HIKING-TIPS

Experience nature in a manifold landscape

We recapped some hiking-tips for you. Of course you will get more information and recommendations on-site.

Grünstein
Starting point: Schönau a. Königssee, car park Hammerstiel

Here, a signpost on the left side of the road, will guide you the way (Nr. 445). You start your tour smoothly through a wood, which then will get moderately steeper. At the beginning the track will branch out, but will merge again shortly below the Grünsteinanticline. In steady uphill reversements you will reach the mountaintop with its breathtaking view.

The descent will lead you to the “Grünsteinhütte”, where you turn left. Follow the steep track through the”Weiße Wand” down to the Klingergraben. At branch-out near the upper end of the bobsleigh run you can turn right if you want to go to Lake Königssee or you turn left and follow the pathes at the food of the mountain back to the starting point.

Walking time: Hammerstiel – Grünsteinhütte approx. 1 ½ hours, till the top 15 minutes longer. Descent to Lake Königssee approx. 1 hour, return path to car park Hammerstiel 1 ½ hours.

Picturesque walk at Lake Königssee
Starting at the car park Königssee (subject to fee) you go to the “Seelende” and follow the Malerwinklpath to Malerwinkle and you turn left into the circular route to the village Königssee. At the highest point take the way to your right to the “Rabenwand” (most beautiful view over Lake Königssee) back to the starting point.

Ridge Trail
Starting point: car park Hinterbrand (subject to fee) – you go downhill following road Vorderbrand. You turn left and go towards Peak Brandkopf (marvelous view over Lake Königssee). Again you have to go downhill till you reach Gasthof Vorderbrand. Please follow the path behind the Gasthof till you reach the hiking trail, than you pass the Brüggenlehen (here you have the possibility to extend your walk by taking the “Carl-von-Linde-Weg”) and go on till the branch-out where you take the left way downhill to Fritzenweg. Here you turn left and follow the Vorderbrandstrasse uphill till the starting point.

Watzmann
The Watzmann is a mountain formation with several peaks and outliers. The “Big Watzmann” is consisting of three peaks which are connected with a narrow ridge. The Hocheck can be climbed by experienced hikers. For the Middle Peak, with 2713 meters the highest point, perfect physical fitness and absolutely no fear of heights is necessary. Crossing over the three Watzmannpeaks is one of the most unforgettable hiking tours, but very long and the descent is not very easy to find.

The famous Watzmann Ostwand is arising as the highest mountain wall in the eastern Alps.
